The nursing shortage is here and while there has been a lot of effort to address the underlying issues, it will worsen as the largest number of nurses in the workforce, the baby boomers, begin to retire in large numbers over the next 5-15 years. With the support of a Partners Investing in Nursing's Future grant, the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation and the MSU College of Nursing have come together to develop this educational program that will help nurses transition to clinical practice areas that best match their stage-of-career and current professional interests.
The Nursing for Life program will educate nurses with the core competencies needed to practice in a safe and competent manner in new settings. Thus, the program will also address the increasing need for well-qualified professional nurses to provide direct care in hospice, long-term, home care, and ambulatory care settings.
Features of the Program:
- Online theory modules followed by a precepted clinical practicum in the participant's home community.
- Modules are self-paced, providing the flexibility to complete the program while employed.
- A clinical practicum that provides a structured yet supportive environment to acquire new knowledge and adapt clinical skills.
The online modules consist of the following seven core modules that every participant will complete.
