The College of Nursing is currently accepting applications for the Master of Science in Nursing:

The MSU College of Nursing MSN programs are accredited by the Center for Credentialing Nursing Education. The Nurse Anesthesia Program has received accreditation through the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, (222 South Prospect Avenue, Suite 304, Park Ridge, Illinois 60060-4041: Telephone 847-692-7050), a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the United States Department of Education Accredited Nurse Anesthesia Programs. Classes will be based in East Lansing with clinicals in our affiliating agencies across the state.

Applications for 2010 for the Nurse Anesthesia concentration are closed. Applications for 2011 will be available in January 2010.

Applications to the Nurse Practitioner concentration are NOW AVAILABLE.

  • Applications submitted by October 1, 2009 will be considered in the early admission review.
    • Selected candidates will be invited for interview November 9 and November 10, 2009.
  • Applications submitted by March 1, 2010 will be considered in the second/final admission review.
    • Selected candidates will be invited for interview March 22 and March 23, 2010.

Applications for the Clinical Nurse Specialist - Education concentration are NOW AVAILABLE.

  • Applications submitted by October 1, 2009 will be considered in the early admission review.
  • Applications submitted by March 1, 2009 will be considered in the second admission review.

Basic Requirements to be Considered for Admission

  • Proof of an RN license free from restrictions or limitations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing
  • A grade point average of 3.0 (4.0 scale) for total credits completed during the last two years of a baccalaureate program.
  • College of Nursing approved statistics course must have been successfully completed within the last five (5) years. For the Fall 2010 Program, this means that statistics should have been taken no earlier than Fall 2005.
  • One year of clinical experience in nursing prior to clinical courses for Nurse Practitioner applicants..
  • Additional criteria required for the Nurse Anesthesia concentration-see MSN Nurse Anesthesia application.

  • Application and fee submitted to Michigan State University, apply on-line to: The Graduate School: Apply for Admission.
  • MSN Application to the College of Nursing, including references, resume, personal statement and transcripts from all previously attended institutions submitted to the:

      Fax: 517-432-8251

  • Proof of an RN license free from restrictions or limitations. Please mail a copy of your license to the College of Nursing Graduate Admissions at the above address. Licenses will be verified through public access sites such as http://www.cis.state.mi.us/free/default.asp.
  • Documentation of Prerequisite Statistics Course.
