Primary age- 18-80+ including Veterans, Ingham Health Plan Blue Cross, Medicare, Medicaid and most third party insurances. Diverse patient ethnicity.

Acute and chronic illnesses, health promotion

Special Areas of Practice Interest:
Women’s Health and menopausal problems, but I also find the challenges of helping people to become a more active partner in their own health care a primary interest.

Special Note or Statement:
I have with other colleague here at MSU developed a model of care for the NP which emphasizes the relationship between the NP and the patient as being patient center, holistic, continuous, evidence based and comprehensive. This model is what I base my care on with the patients, I try to emphasize health care education and awareness as well as barriers pt. encounter in making life style changes.

Special Note or Statement:
My clinical practice includes providing primary heath care to the Veteran population from a tri county area in Mid- Michigan. In addition, the clinic provides care to Ingham Health Plan patients and has recently opened to third party payers. The age range of patients is 18-80++. Besides managing acute and chronic illness, promoting health maintenance, the clinic also provides emotional support through provider interaction with patients, social work and psychiatry services. My interests are in health and wellness promotion and managing diabetes and cardiac patients.

Behavioral health; patient-centered interviewing; diabetes; patient education; health promotion

A major emphasis of my practice is educating patients to understand the interaction of behavioral health and chronic disease. I emphasize healthy lifestyle behaviors and help identity behaviors to enhance patients’ health. I consider myself a behavior change cheerleader.

I like to work with my patients, to help increase their understanding of their illness, and empower them to manage their disorder, and prevent complications associated with their health problems. I believe patients need be active participants in the management of there health care needs.
