MISSION STATEMENT

The goal of these studies is to design and implement a longitudinal, two-phase project combining qualitative and quantitative data collection and analytic approaches. The primary objectives of this project are to:
  • Identify key individual and family characteristics that are related to the early introduction of solids and other unhealthy feeding practices;
  • Develop a culturally relevant intervention curriculum and corresponding training protocols for use by service providers and others working with limited-income mothers and their infants in existing intervention programs;
  • Pilot test the curriculum for its feasibility with diverse, limited-income populations.
The development of effective, inexpensive, early interventions aimed at promoting healthy infant feeding practices by mothers is expected to reduce the risk of early childhood overweight and obesity is expected to reduce health costs in both the short and long term.
